CNC Design for Manufacturability Checklist
DFM is a trade-off between the part function and the work needed to make, inspect and repeat it. Review these features before requesting a quote.

Geometry and tool access
- Avoid unnecessarily deep narrow pockets and inaccessible features
- Use internal radii that match practical cutting tools where function allows
- Check thin walls and unsupported areas for distortion risk
- Group features that can be reached in the same setup
Holes, threads and datums
- Specify hole size, depth and tolerance only where they affect function
- Allow tool access for drilling, boring or thread production
- Define thread standard, class and depth
- Use clear datums so inspection and fixturing reference the same intent
Tolerances and finishes
- Reserve tight tolerances for mating or performance-critical features
- Separate cosmetic finish from functional surface requirements
- State whether deburring, edge breaks or marking are required
- Ask for a cost and risk impact when a tolerance can be relaxed
